Comment on: Aidpage group discussing "Financial Aid - Medical/Dental"...

Posted in Discussing "Financial Aid - Medical/Dental" on May 7, 2008

Thanks I will go check that out. Well I did we still make too much to get this. Wish this type of program would look at what medical bills you have coming to determine if you are eligible. If so we would be able to get assistance.

 in response to desperate mom2...

I am right there with  you sister! We are in the same situation. It is riduculous. Both my husband and I work (my hubby works two jobs), all the jobs are good jobs but the medical/dental expenses are eating us alive. Most of my son's issues - insurance does not cover. My insurance man even tells us it is almost riduculous to even have insurance on him. So I understand where  you are coming from. Wish I could win the lottery. But that is not happening.

Hi, My name is Deidra I am mother to an 8 year old boy who has lots of medical issues. I work full time and my husband works two full time jobs. We have insurance. Unfortunately most of my son's issues are not covered by insurance this has been a rough year on us financially. We almost lost our house (which is by no means a nice house) it needs lots of work in fact (it is an old farmhouse). My son has had some new issues emerge this year and we have had an enormous amount of medical expenses. We are really having a hard time and it is so frustrating when we are really trying to do this on our own and not get help. We are looking at a very major surgery (possibly this summer) which would help him a great deal but of course it is not covered or very minimally by insurance. I will be out of work for a pretty long recovery period (fortunately my job is very understanding) so I can take the time off but it will be unpaid. Have no idea how we will make house payments, power, phones etc.. during this time. If anyone knows of any grants out there that might help or organizations please let me know. I tried Shriners but they don't usually do this (they specilize in burn victims).  Almost tempted to quit work stay at home so we can get some help but I have a good job and don't want to jeopardize my future retirement and I still have pride and really like my job.

Thanks,

Deidra_hicks@ncsu.edu

Try calling local social services office (ours in NC has a program that helps cover heating/cooling costs for low/fixed income individuals- up to a certain amount). Our power companies also have a fund set up (not sure how to apply for this one though). Or call your local United Way, check to see if you have Cooperative Christian Ministies in your area they are there to help with prescriptions/food/shelter/heat/air costs also. Good Luck!
